Whats the penalty for subletting without approval from apartment management?

I need to move out of my apartment because of financial reasons. I cant afford the $3000 or so to break my lease. Management allows subletting but only to those people that are qualified (good credit). All the people so far that I brought to the leasing office have not qualified to sublet my apartment. I'm running out of options and so as a last resort I'm thinking of just renting my apartment to someone and collecting the rent money and then using that money to pay my apartment complex directly. Is that a smart move? What kind of penalties are there?
