When sending e-mails with pictures?

I used to send them on windows 7 and paste them at the bottom of the e-mail text. With windows 8 they seem to attach right at the top which I don't want, since the pic is the punchline of my e-mail. How do I paste the pic at the bottom, I've tried pasting and it comes out just a gray square.
